Turning 50 and podcasting- Thinking back to....

It is strange. Maybe it is because I saw Noel Paul Stookey (The Paul of Peter, Paul and Mary.) at the C.S. Lewis Writers Conference this past month or maybe it is because I am turning 50. As I was contemplating the direction of the podcast, the profound influence that other generations and other people have had on my life, I thought about the music that I used to listen to in the 70's, when I first came to know the Lord.

Music can change your life. Especially music that you worshipped to so many years ago. The 70's were not that far away for me, but in many ways they are very far away. My daughter and cohost of the podcasts Christina Sizemore does not know some of the music I listened to. I have contacted many of these people to see if they will interview with us. To thank them for their ministry, see where they are now in their life, and also to see their generational blessings of faith.

Besides growing up with Noel Paul Stookey's "The Wedding Song" and even Peter Paul and Mary's "If I had a Hammer."

There are so many others.

Boby Dylan is a legend in himself. Coming to know the Lord and writing such songs as "Serve Somebody" and putting out an album "Slow Train Coming" was a bold thing to do. I loved this little piece.

Who could not have been moved by the wonderful music and life of Keith and Melody Green?

How shocked we were when God took him and two of his children home. He was 28, Josiah was 3, and Bethany was 2.

2nd Chapter of Acts caused me to praise God.

I fell in love with Reba Rambo- my favorite song was "All Day Dinner" However, I could not find that song. I do think of it often when I am praising God.

And Chuck Girard and Love Song.

Chuck, we were all trying to connect things back then. And yes, that is Katherine Kuhlman.

I remember as a teen and listening to Christian music. I also loved rock and roll, but believe it or not, many thought teens who gave their life over to the Lord and still listened to rock and roll were somehow backslidden.

I cried over the thought of having to give up my albums. I could not understand this thought process. I was so thankful when Petra came out with this song. And claimed outright "God Gave Rock and Roll to You!"

It was a bold statement.

Of course one of the musicians that affected my life the most was Amy Grant. Amy and I are almost the exact same age. We celebrate our birthdays just 18 days apart. Happy 50th Amy Grant.

As I was growing up I celebrated her achievements and was encouraged to pick up the guitar more seriously when I heard her first album recorded at age 18. Though I had favorites from that first album, "Mountain Top" stays in my mind.

How uplifting was the song "More Than Conquerers,"by Janny Grien . I cannot find it on You Tube. But it is in this you tube video at about :38 Sorry it is an advertisment video. It is all I could find on this artist.

Honey Tree was a little subued compared to the others, but I loved her spirit.

And I'll Rise Again With Dallas Holm

BJ Thomas was known for his music way before he turned his life over to the Lord. As a little girl I sang "Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head." But as a teen I sang "What a Difference You Have Made in My Life."

I have loved the guitar playing and music of Phil Keaggy. There is a spirit in this playing.

All of this reminiscing has made me want to get albums from each of these people.

There are so many more.

But I must mention later in my 20's I became pregnant and in my 4th month suffered a miscarriage. I was so devastated. At that point someone gave me John Michael Talbot's album. Oh my, the meditative words and songs of this album healed my heart and soul. I was sorry when they took the album back.

Our loving cohost, mother, grandmother and sister now resides in heaven.

We are saddened that Barbara Ingersoll, one of the cohosts of the Inspiration/Generations Podcast that was known as Graham and was mother to cohost Bridgette Mongeon, grandmother to cohost Christina Sizemore, has gone to be with the Lord. Barbara was obtaining quite a following since the conception of the podcasts in 2008. The podcasts were born out of fervent prayer between the three women.

Barbara reports in one of the first podcasts, “Four years ago I fell and broke both of my hips so that has put an end to physically active ministry for me, but though I am in my 70’s and disabled, it does not put an end to the work of the Holy Spirit through me or through anyone really. That is one of the reasons why I wanted to do this podcast because I can’t do active ministry, but I can do this, talking on the phone and that is easy for me.”

Barbara suffered from osteoarthritis and several other ailments through her life. She lived almost every day of her life in pain, yet God sustained her and strengthened her faith. The three women discussed just before Barbara’s death that the Generational podcast can continue through the many journals that Barbara has written over her lifetime. In one of the last entries Barbara states, “ I proclaim to all the earth and all powers and principalities that these are healing podcasts —no matter where you are in your walk with the Lord… However far you have come in your journey.”

Before her passing Barbara participated in over 38 podcasts. A list of all of the podcast can be found on the God's Word website along with the hosts bios. Her last interview was with Ruth Graham, together they talked about healing hurting women. That was a yearning for Barbara throughout her entire life. In her younger days she developed support groups for hurting women and then trained leaders for support groups. She did this throughout western New York and Canada. The transition from life to life everlasting held its own blessings and are recorded in a podcast titled “What happens at Death.” Where the two cohosts report on the conversations and visitations that their mom and grandmother had from those who went before her. This part of death was a touching and healing process for all. On Thursday Augusts 20, 2009 a memorial service was held for Barbara. This too has also been added to this list of podcasts as her life and ministry were celebrated by many.

There is nothing more honoring for Barbara’s life to have her ministry continue to help women. To have her past, her fortitude and struggles make a difference in someone else’s life. The Inspirations/Generations podcast is looking to listeners to share their opinions. The podcasts of three generations of Christian women that share their thoughts about different issues and aspects of life are receiving a fair amount of publicity for their content and the way they can touch the hearts of individuals. From the five part testimony of the 72 year old senior host Barbara Ingersoll, known to her audience as Gram, for her walk through drug addiction and alcohol, to the topics of the sandwich generations brought up by the 48 year old host, Bridgette Mongeon, or the view of the wise beyond her years 24 year old Christian Diliberto who touches the lives of young people and those young at heart. The notoriety of the show has been exciting and is exhibited in some of the guests, such as Gary Chapman-author of the Love Languages Books. Other exciting noteworthy guests are being scheduled for 2009

Now, Inspirations/Generations would like to encourage listeners to share their thoughts.

Comments should be no longer than 250 words and can even be just one or two sentences, if you prefer. Be sure to include your name, and title, and location. Including your age can be helpful as it allows the producers of the podcast to know the listening audience. CHRISTMAS RECIPES from Christmas Tradition podcast

Mexican wedding cakes

6 tablespoons of confectionery sugar
2 cups of flour
2 cup of margarine- ( Barbara thinks you could use butter)
1 cup of chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon of vanilla

mash all in hands and make small balls, 1” or less
Barbara says, “the smaller the better”

350 degrees for 12-15 minutes
Roll them in confectionery sugar while hot.
Makes about 65

Crisp orange cut outs
– Apparently Bridgette was the last generation to get this recipie and hers is so warn it can not be read. We are sorry and if there are any bakers out there than can fill in the two blanks it would be appreciated.

Sifts together 3c flour
--- tea baking powder
½ teas salt
in another bowl soften 1 c. butter blend in
1 ½ c granulate sugar
1 tab of grated orange rind
Beat in 1 egg and 3 t of fresh orange juice
Add flour mixture in 3 or 4 parts mixing well after each
Chill until firm enough to handle ( this is a stiff dough)

Roll to 1/8 inch on lightly floured board cut into cookie shapes and bake at ___ for 8-10 minutes.

French onion dip in bread bowl

Chris talks about the smell of this as Misfit Christmas.

Purchase large round bread, rye is nice contrast in color. Cut out the center to make a bowl. Cube center pieces of save them for making croutons. In a glass bowl simply mix plain yogurt or sour cream and French onion soup mix. Put in bread bowl and serve with bread pieces of veggies.

Salad

Chris talks about the yummy salad at misfit Christmas. This salad is very simple. You can add anything except leafy veggies. Here is what Bridgette puts in hers.

1-2 cans of quartered artichokes
Tomatoes
Cucumber slices
Onion red or white or both
Cubed pepper jack cheese
Bell pepper, green or red or whatever you have on hand
Slices of pepperoni
Handful of green olives.
Celery and any other veggies that you choose.

Mix all with a bottled Italian dressing generously poured on top. (this is better if it sits for an hour or more in the fridge)

Wassail

Though it was not spoken of in the podcast it was tradition to have a pot of wassail sitting on the stove throughout the day

1-gallon apple cider
27 whole cloves 8 cinnamon sticks- you can float the sticks or put in cheese cloth and hang on the side. Bridgette has also taken cloves and put them in a tea ball.
1-quart pineapple juice
1 can (6 ounce) frozen orange juice concentrate

Mix all ingredients in a large crockpot and simmer or put on back of stove and simmer. Makes the house smell so good. Serve hot.

When you live nearly 2000 miles away then visits between mother and daughter are few and far between. I was able to swing by Buffalo, NY to visit mom on my way to deliver a sculpture to Vermont. Talking and podcasting are good, but touching, hugging and kissing are better.

My friend has been listening to these podcasts and states, "The healing between your mom and you is wonderful." "It is all about forgiveness," I reply.

The offices, warehouse, manufacturing plant and art studio of God's Word Collectibles is located in the Houston, Texas area. On September 13th Hurricane Ike came through the Galveston/Houston area. Chris 23 discusses going away to college, graduating, being on your own and breaking away. The emotions involved in the breaking away from your parents and the difficulty both for child and parent. She doesn't feel like she thought she would feel when being called "an adult.” And describes her stage as a journey toward her purpose.

Bridgette 47 Discusses being in the middle stage, trying to help her daughter as she enters adulthood, and her mother as she works through physical trauma losing her home and independence. She desires to look over her life and her accomplishments yet she knows she will soon enter her mothers stage of life losing those things that she has worked so hard for, as well as perhaps her health and longs to be prepared.

Barbara 72 Talks about having to give her belongings away to move into assisted living and the grieving process of letting go. She offers a prayer for all women, especially those who are hurting.

All the women talk about the importance of finding a home church and the differences in the churches that each generation goes to. They offer suggestions for fellowship.

Chris 23 lives in Tulsa and talks about her denominational background, and the difference between a spiritual life in high school and that of a young adult. She hopes women will gain some life stuff from the podcast.

Barbara 72 lives in New York and talks about counseling hurting women and about beginning Christian support groups through Women's Aglow and training leaders. Her physical active ministry appears to end as she has broken both hips and is living in an assisted living facility. She discusses the importance of family and the principles, both spiritual and otherwise that need to be passed on. She enjoys watching the mirroring of lives and faith through the generations.

Each comments on the importance of prayer in their lives, and the thought of all the people who have prayed for them.
