CHRISTMAS RECIPES from Christmas Tradition podcast

Mexican wedding cakes
6 tablespoons of confectionery sugar
2 cups of flour
2 cup of margarine- ( Barbara thinks you could use butter)
1 cup of chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon of vanilla

mash all in hands and make small balls, 1” or less
Barbara says, “the smaller the better”

350 degrees for 12-15 minutes
Roll them in confectionery sugar while hot.
Makes about 65

Crisp orange cut outs
– Apparently Bridgette was the last generation to get this recipie and hers is so warn it can not be read. We are sorry and if there are any bakers out there than can fill in the two blanks it would be appreciated.

Sifts together 3c flour
--- tea baking powder
½ teas salt
in another bowl soften 1 c. butter blend in
1 ½ c granulate sugar
1 tab of grated orange rind
Beat in 1 egg and 3 t of fresh orange juice
Add flour mixture in 3 or 4 parts mixing well after each
Chill until firm enough to handle ( this is a stiff dough)

Roll to 1/8 inch on lightly floured board cut into cookie shapes and bake at ___ for 8-10 minutes.

French onion dip in bread bowl
Chris talks about the smell of this as Misfit Christmas.

Purchase large round bread, rye is nice contrast in color. Cut out the center to make a bowl. Cube center pieces of save them for making croutons. In a glass bowl simply mix plain yogurt or sour cream and French onion soup mix. Put in bread bowl and serve with bread pieces of veggies.

Salad
Chris talks about the yummy salad at misfit Christmas. This salad is very simple. You can add anything except leafy veggies. Here is what Bridgette puts in hers.

1-2 cans of quartered artichokes
Tomatoes
Cucumber slices
Onion red or white or both
Cubed pepper jack cheese
Bell pepper, green or red or whatever you have on hand
Slices of pepperoni
Handful of green olives.
Celery and any other veggies that you choose.

Mix all with a bottled Italian dressing generously poured on top. (this is better if it sits for an hour or more in the fridge)

Wassail
Though it was not spoken of in the podcast it was tradition to have a pot of wassail sitting on the stove throughout the day

1-gallon apple cider
27 whole cloves 8 cinnamon sticks- you can float the sticks or put in cheese cloth and hang on the side. Bridgette has also taken cloves and put them in a tea ball.
1-quart pineapple juice
1 can (6 ounce) frozen orange juice concentrate

Mix all ingredients in a large crockpot and simmer or put on back of stove and simmer. Makes the house smell so good. Serve hot.
